Living Without Using: A Therapy Process Group for Adults in Recovery

Although complete abstinence from alcohol, and other forms of addictive substances is a great and necessary accomplishment, it is also the beginning of an even more important task. The aftermath of stopping substance use that has been both life sustaining, and life destroying begs the understanding of emotional and mental components that drive the compulsion to use. Without an understanding of the complicated issues that arise without use of a substance, it is a monumental task to maintain a comfortable self-state and be integrated in the world. Learning how to maintain the abstinence by understanding the complicated components at the root of the compulsive behavior is essential. This group will directly address the stresses and difficulties of coping with sobriety. This group is for people who are in recovery and are not using/abusing substances.

Skills Training Groups

DBT skills can be a valuable addition to individual psychotherapy because they offer practical strategies for managing strong emotions. DBT group may be particularly useful to individuals struggling with eating disorders, self injury, and other impulsive and compulsive behaviors. The group is open to new members every 6-8 weeks. Each unit focuses on one of the four DBT Skill Areas. For more information on the skill areas, go to the DBT page. The groups are open to men and women age sixteen and up. Group members are strongly encouraged to commit to the whole six month cycle of training. All sections of the group follow the same schedule.
